A couple of weeks ago I got a text from a friend inviting me for a group trip to Lekki conservational center, ok for those of you who do not know LCC as it is often called is an Urban Nature Park located along the Lagos-Epe Expressway, Eti- Osa Local Government Area in Lagos. So back to my invite, we would be going as a group and we agreed to pay at least 2,000 naira each to cover our lunch.
We left from Ikeja at exactly 12:30 on a Saturday, which in my opinion was late because the plan was 10:30, but in the regular “African time” fashion the company that we contracted for small delivered them over 2hours late, when I got to the meeting point at 10:20am, I turned out to be the second person to arrive. Anyways we arrived at the center at 1:40 pm, extra tired because my group (we split to a group of 3 vehicles) got stuck in gridlock traffic along Bolade/Oshodi.
First thing that struck me on arriving at the centre was why they are so many people here?

Like are Lagosians this interested in nature?

After spending a couple hours at the center I came to a conclusion;

YES and NO.
Within the space of 4 hours I was able to notice about 4 unintended benefits of visiting LCC which perhaps is the reason why they have many people visit;



 1. FOR A YEARS WORTH OF EXERCISE
If you have ever been on the canopy walk at LCC, then I’m sure you can testify (yes I said testify) that completing the feels like you just completed an Olympic sport or better did an entire year worth of exercise. What is interesting is once you begin there’s no turning back or giving up in between, because the only way to get off the canopy is to complete the canopy walk



 2. FREE SOCIALIZING/NETWORKING

Even if you are in the company of a group (like I was), at LCC you easily meet and interact with ne people from the point of payment to the walk and back, some of whom might be in the same industry as you.



 3. THE BEST FAMILY DAY

So just before I got on the canopy walk, right in front of me was a friend from UNI with his parents going on. It got a resounding “awwwwww” from me like you can actually bond with your family, especially when you are looking out for your them hoping no one falls off the walk , isn’t that cute.



 4.IT IS A KINDA CHEAP GETAWAY

Lagos is a super stressful city to live in and honestly if you work, live and breathe in Lagos you deserve an occasionally getaway. Ordinarily a typical getaway might cost you a few funds, so LCC pretty much offers you a cheaper alternative to get that out of Lagos feel.
Altogether it was a great day out and I enjoyed myself.

 PS:I was pretty disappointed to learn there had been a hike in prices ( from 1,000 to 1,500) for both entry and the canopy walk making the total #3,000 as against the usual #2,000, even after calling a couple of days and we were assured rates were normal.
