It's no news that the new alté trend has taken over in cities like Lagos, and while a lot of people  in the fashion and music scene have been receptive of this new trend, they are some who find it appalling, especially since the trend seems to be popular among a certain class of individuals. In this post, I'll be dissecting  this trend, and sharing my most unbiased opinion about it.
WHAT IS ALTé ...

Alté is a actually gotten from the word Alternative, a nickname give to Nigerian alternative artists, which is why the fashion trend is more common amongst them.
The trend, is heavily influenced by street style, with a lot of edginess, it became more popular because of artists like Odunsi.





BUT...

After taking a closer look into the alté trend, I was able to find a couple of artists and fashionista's who sampled this style way before it got a name;

Luka Sabbat, looking pretty alté to me.

Jaden smith, altéish.

frank ocean, in street style looking pretty alté.

Asap Rocky

Lukas Sabbat once again, looking Alté, I'm beginning to think he was big inspiration.

IN CONCLUSION;

Personally, I'm pretty indifferent about this trend, it strikes me as one of those trends that lasts for a short while, and after it dies is never spoken of again,  kind of like carrot pants.

I can't say if I'd ever try the alté look, even though it seems highly unlikely, but I'll like to know what you guys think about this trend, have you tried it, do plan on trying it or like some, do you find it appalling?
